Poolside is always a summer time fave from Tom. Made from Syrah, but in a way that serves as an homage to the light, fresh, zippy red wines of the Jura (notably made from Poulsard), it pours like a rosé, offering blood orange acidity, cranberry, sweetgrass. Drink it, poolside?
Tom Shobbrook makes wines in Flaxman Valley, Barossa. Natural wines, made by hand from organically grown fruit. It sounds simple, but his attitude was not the norm in Australia when he was starting out, and his early sight awarded him status (amidst James Erskine and Anton Von Klopper) as one of the leaders of the natural wine movement in Australia. The wines stun year after year, and are always a surprise, truly reflecting the year that was, and the years that came before. A sum of parts.
