Swartlands answer the call, wines of distinction and rugged artistry

The Coastal region of South Africa is broken up into nine districts, Swartland district lies about 65 kilometres north of Cape Town.

Its ancient geology has brought a mix of shale, sandstone and granite soils that are cooled by the Atlantic ocean breezes.

This is an arid and harsh environment and the vines of Swartland are sprawling bush vines planted to varieties like Carignan, Cinsault and Chenin Blanc.

Dwarfed by more commercial investment in the districts of Stellenbosch and Cape Town, Swartland is unique in its weathered beauty and growing reputation for distinctive high end wines.

Eben Sadie is THE name here, with a celebrated reputation from his first venture (Terroir al Límit) he has now moved completely away to run his own boutique operation, Sadie Family Wines.

Sadie Family wines farms 30 Hectares of organic and dry farmed vines, these days Sadie rarely uses new oak choosing to spontaneously ferment, ages in concrete vats, eggs and large format oak.

These are the wines coveted by wine professionals and bought in tiny allocations across the globe, once you taste them you'll understand why.
