Located on the border between Italy and Slovenia, Radikon is a family estate known for its pioneering approach to winemaking. In the mid-1990s, Stanko Radikon revolutionised the estate’s practices, inspired by a desire to reconnect with the natural essence of the grape. Rejecting conventional methods, he revived the ancient tradition of extended skin contact in white wines, transforming both his approach and the world’s view of Friuli wines. The 18-hectare vineyard, perched on sloping hills, produces grapes of exceptional quality despite the challenging terrain. In the winery, the grapes undergo long skin maceration before being aged in oak barriques and bottle. This traditional method, rooted in the winemaking practices of neighbouring Slovenia, results in wines with rich texture and a unique, tannic profile. Radikon’s wines, like the RS (Rosso Saša), are bold and complex. The RS, a Merlot-based red, offers a powerful nose of marzipan cherry, plum, leather, cocoa, and subtle smoke, with a lush, structured palate and a long finish. Radikon wines continue to captivate connoisseurs worldwide, celebrated for their deep connection to tradition and their distinctive, textured character.
