Within the Mosel, in the district of Saar lies the town of Ayl. One of the coolest areas in the Mosel, Florian Lauer is making pristine wines that demand your attention and a quiet focus for contemplation.
5th Generation winemaker the Peter Lauer Estate was admitted to VDP in 2013.
Yes, there are still the steep sites, rocky slate soils and low alcohol we know of the Mosel style but what sets Lauer apart is the crystal clear vision of mostly dry and slightly off dry wines coupled with the spotlight on texture and weight.
Through his practice of natural yeast fermentations Lauer wines has a distinct style but vastly speaks of the Saar as well, with his sites sitting largely on the hillside of Kupp.
Using the tradition of naming each wine by ‘fass’ or barrel and the vineyard name, the Estate’s wines have won favor the world over with surprise surprise… a cult following each release of vintage.
There is a reason why these wines don't sit in our holdings for long. Find out why.
