L'appel is a small, spirited South African producer with a natural wine sensibility and a refreshingly unpretentious approach to winemaking. 'Bon Plonk' — French for "good plonk" — wears its name with a wink, though there is nothing ordinary about what's in the bottle. Sourced from cool climate sites, this Pinot Noir is light, lithe, and wonderfully drinkable, with a translucent ruby hue and an expressive nose of red cherry, raspberry, and dried rose petal. The palate is silky and low-intervention in character, with gentle tannins, fresh acidity, and an easy, joyful finish. Seriously good casual drinking.
