'Watervale' Riesling 2024

Made by Andrew and Victoria Kenny of Kenny Wine, a Clare Valley project drawing on Andrew's experience under Neil Pike and time spent winemaking in Germany's Pfalz region. The fruit comes from the biologically farmed Morella Vineyard in Watervale, 447 metres above sea level, planted to Geisenheim 198 clones in 2002 and tended by growers Ben and Jess Castine. Harvested at 10.8 baumé, the free-run juice was cold-settled, racked onto fluffy lees and fermented with neutral yeast in tank for fourteen days, then rested on lees for six months before bottling. Expect grapefruit and floral aromatics with a textured, mineral palate, showing the crushed-chalk precision and racy line characteristic of Watervale. Crisp, dry and site-driven, it's a single-vineyard expression that highlights the subregion's distinct character over heavy-handed winemaking.
