Australia has a long history with Cabernet, and many of its heroes are based in Victoria. Joshua Cooper is the son of Macedon Ranges icons, Nelly and Alan Cooper of Cobaw Ridge. He has very successfully established himself as an emerging icon himself, working with vineyards across the greater Macedon and central Victorian region, making wines in a lo-fi, but intensely purposeful way. The Cabernet stands out as one of his favourites, and this release is simply stellar. Made from a parcel of grapes from a family friend in Balgownie, old vines producing intense, pure fruit. There's a ripe, round lusciousness of dark berries, almost Szechuan like spice, plenty of length and direct tannin. Violets and cedar garland the palate. Balance at its finest.
