Giacomo Fenocchio is in the heart of Barolo. Founded in 1894, it is now owned and operated by the fifth generation, Claudio Fenocchio. His father passed away unexpectedly in 1989, leaving the company under his direction. Claudio admits that those first years were a massive challenge, as he learned the ins and outs of the business, and battled the decision of whether to modernize their winemaking techniques as the ‘modern’ wave took hold. He dutifully decided to maintain the winemaking style of his father and grandparents before him, and is now considered one of the finest examples of a traditional Barolo producer. They own 14ha of vines, which are farmed without chemical herbicides or pesticides. They produce 11 different wines, including the latest addition from across the river – a white, Arneis, from Roero.
