Chiroubles sits high behind the two iconic crus of Morgon and Fleurie, on the western side of the appellation. It is certainly the most immediately rewarding wine of the Descombes alumnus, magnetic perfumes of hibiscus, violet, rose, lined with gorgeous red fruit. A fine, lacework like tannic structure. Silk, swoon. Georges Descombes is the unofficial fifth member of the “Gang of Four”, the group of Beaujolais vignerons that are credited with bringing the region to its current status of glory. He was inspired as a teen when he tried the wines of Marcel Lapierre, and has since then adopted the methodologies and ethos of the famous winemaker to his own practice. He is a stickler for letting wines rest, and if you are patient his wines are certainly ones that go beyond and above when they are cellared. Utterly delightful Beaujolais.
