Following in the steps of twelve generations of Burgundian winemakers will certainly help in establishing a name of your own, but in a market as dissected as Burgundy, nepotism doesn’t do it alone. Pierre-Vincent Girardin (now 13th generation winemaker) established his label in 2017 at the young age of 21. With only a few vintages behind him, he began garnering critical praise. Great grapes are the foundation to his label. His father, Vincent Girardin, bequeathed 4.5ha of prime vineyard land including a parcel of Les Folatières in Puligny-Montrachet. He farms his vineyards organically, as well as the added plots he’s contracted since his debut. In comparison to his father’s wines, Pierre-Vincent has a lighter touch. He ages his whites in custom-built 456L barrels, whereas the reds see stem inclusion, very little punch down, and maturation in the more classic 228L Burgundian barrel.
