Domaine Ostertag is a mainstay in the Alsatian section of world-class wine lists. The 12ha, including 75 plots across 5 villages, have been farmed biodynamically since 1998, giving attention to the most minute aspects of the vineyard and soil health. The wines are left to ferment slowly, with only indigenous yeasts. Lees ageing adds another layer of complexity and depth to the otherwise brilliant wines. The Pinot family (Blanc, Gris, and Noir) tend to see some barrel ageing.
André Ostertag propelled the family estate into stardom, but he has since passed the proverbial baton to his son, Arthur, who has not only maintained the exquisite quality of the winery, but also adds a playful touch. The top tier wines include their lieu-dit Heissenberg and the Muenchberg Grand Cru bottling.
