Bernard Gripa, now in his seventies, continues to tend to his vines in the Northern Rhone, France. His son, Fabrice, has taken over the day-to-day management of the estate, but under the guidance of his father. The family own 16ha of vineyards, most of which are planted in the Saint-Joseph appellation, with 3.5ha in Saint-Péray. They tend to their vines by hand, as the slopes in this region are too steep to access by machine. The age of the vines (65 to 80 years old in some plots), organic farming, and maturation in French oak barrels, lend themselves to the house style. The house is equally known for their whites as their reds, a rarity in the Northern Rhone. The oldest vines are reserved for the “Le Berceau” cuvée, which is the name used for both their top white and red in the Saint-Joseph AOP.
