Con-Greg Gigoriou was born and raised in Riverland, South Australia. Riverland has long been known as a region for mass produced grape juice, but today the tides are shifting. Gigoriou is included in a new wave of winemakers in Riverland who have sought out appropriate grape varietals for quality, terroir-driven wine.
Delinquente uses native Italian varietals like Nero d’Avola, Vermentino, and Montepulciano, which are far better suited to the steaming hot climate of the Riverland. Gigoriou purchases grapes from organic and biodynamic growers, specifically picks early to maintain acidity and to keep alcohol levels at bay. He uses a minimal interventionist style in the winery and hopes to provide wines that are fun, fruit forward, terroir-driven, but also, ultimately smashable.
