Château Yvonne is located on an ancient vineyard site dating back to the Middle Ages in the Saumur town of Parnay. Once abandoned, Yvonne and Jean-Francois Lamunière set out to restore this vestige of a vineyard in 1997, with the aid of winemaker Françoise Foucault (of Clos Rougeard). Since then, Mathieu Vallée has taken on the site, but kept the name. Today the estate consists of 8ha of Cabernet Franc and 3ha of Chenin Blanc farmed organically and mostly situated in ‘La Côte’ – a plateau overlooking the Loire River. Mathieu has added a few new cuvées with ‘La Folie’ produced from limestone soils in Champigny. The wines continue to garner rave reviews from sommeliers and critics alike.
