Listrac is a lesser-known commune in the Médoc region of Bordeaux. Although it doesn’t have the same cache as say, Pauillac, Listrac produces some fine wines at exceptional value. It is typically the last of the Médoc communes to ripen, an asset given the current change in climate and rising temperatures. Château Mayne Lalande is found here in Listrac. Bernard Latrigue has been the proprietor since 1982 and has built a successful 22-hectare estate, 17 of which is devoted to the winery. The soils here are largely gravel, lending to a Cabernet Sauvignon dominant wine. Bernard works his 42 plots (each vinified separately) with biodynamic practices. The final blends and duration of ageing are decided upon tasting, but wines typically see 14 to 18 months in French oak, approximately 40% new.
