Moonlight Race is two parcels of Pinot Noir, one from the Burn Cottage Vineyard in Lowburn and the second coming off the Burn Cottage Sauvage Vineyard in Bannockburn. Rich, concentrated dark fruits and silky tannins. A flutter of bayleaf and a sprinkle of white pepper. Long and luscious, it’s a broody, elegant Pinot, reminiscent of some of the finest in the world.
As the search for Burgundian alternatives heightens as prices climb, the net has been cast over the New Zealand region of Central Otago. Spanning over 24 hectares, the Sauvage family enlisted some of the greatest minds in wine (including Ted Lemon of Littorai) to set up the estate, which is now overseen by winemaker Clare Mulholland and vineyard manager, Shane Livingstone. Burn Cottage have been masters of Pinot long and true, and if you’re new to the winery or the region, this wine is certainly a good place to get to know them.
