Sam Hambour and Duncan Gibson were winemakers first and brewers second. Which does not come as a surprise as winemakers drink a lot of beer and brewers often drink wine. Hop Nation in Footscray is their craft brewing gig and Site Wines is in its 5th Vintage.
Site wines are minimal intervention Victorian wines, created to express the character first found in the vineyard it is grown in.
The boys work closely with numerous growers across the state from regions such as Mornington Peninsula, Macedon Ranges to Benalla and utilise sustainable practices where possible. The wines are hand-picked using natural fermentation with no fining or filtration.
There is a saying amongst winemakers that wine doesn't get made without a lot of cold frothies along the way, we think Sam and Dunc know exactly what they are doing and the industry is better for it. Bravo.
