Silvio Messana and his Montesecondo winery, are known as revolutionary within Chianti. Instead of the over extracted, oak laden, high alcohol wines that Chianti used to base itself on, Silvio aims for a more delicate touch. The Sangiovese for this wine in particular is picked earlier than his others, and he applies only a short maceration with limited punch downs. What that means is: this wine is distinctly and intentionally elegant in colour, tannin, and extraction. A terrific introduction to what Montesecondo is all about.
