Mike and Claudia Elze Weersing travelled for 15 years seeking out the best wines, sites and winemaking techniques of the world, before they knew they were ready for their own operation.

They began their ultimate dream in the year 2000 and in the next 15- 20 years crafted some of the most extraordinary wines ever seen in New Zealand. The couple lead the charge in biodynamics, high density plantings and terroir focused wines.

On their sacred site, the Waikari Estate, North Canterbury they found the rich, rocky, limestone and clay derived soils suited perfectly for cool climate varieties.

In 2017 Steve Smith MW and Brian Steth recognised the distinguished vineyards and acquired the estate to carry on the Weersing vision.  Today Huw Kinch is in charge of operations and winemaking.

2018 marked an important date when the new vineyard of Manata Estate in Lowburn, Central Otago was purchased, breathing new life into their offerings. The old vines are high in organic matter, creating distinction and truly exceptional quality of Central Otago Pinot Noir.

Pyramid Valley remains one of the most important estates of New Zealand's wine success story and the harmony in which they operate is nothing short of inspiring.

Truly at one with nature, these are the breathing examples of the Weersing spirit and sense of place they come from.
