Thoughtful wines of understated grace from Denis Bachelet
Denis Bachelet has achieved great things. A is the custodian of a tiny estate consisting of approximately 4 hectares and situated in Gevrey- Chambertin. Essentially a solo operation run by the man himself since 1983 his ability to produce wines of elegance, finesse and grace is accepted the world over.
Sacrifice for ultimate quality runs through his signature. Utilising green harvesting, 100% destemmed fruit and at maximum one third new oak, often only relying on 50% new oak.
Bachelet uses concrete and stainless steel vats with a long cold maceration to preserve freshness of the wines.
Bachelet’s grandmother was a source of constant inspiration up until her death at 97 years of age and today his son Nicolas has joined the business keeping things between family and trusted loved ones.
A lutte raisonnée approach to sustainable viticulture Bachelet is always conscious of taking care of the small production of land he has, over his time growing it from 1.8 ha which was hardly viable to what it is today.
Denis Bachelet goes about his business in a reticent way, softly coaxing the whispers of the vines into the bottle and stoppering a moment in time. The drinking of such wines deserves your attention and thoughtful consideration.
