Marco Merli traded in his career as a fashion designer for 7ha of organically farmed vineyards in Perugia, Umbria. He’s taken abandoned vineyards and rehabilitated them, working with local varieties including Sangiovese, Ciegliegiolo, Trebbiano and Verdicchio - some vines aged 40 – 50 years old. He produces 13 wines à la naturale (minimal intervention). The Janus cuvée is 100% Sangiovese, fermented in stainless steel and aged in a combination of cement and steel. This isn’t your brooding, savoury style of Sangiovese, instead think freshness and liveliness.
