Olivier Leflaive is of the same family as one of Puligny-Montrachet’s most famous domaines, Domaine Leflaive. In fact, Olivier was director of Domaine Leflaive alongside his uncle and cousin until the early 1990s. He had also started a negociant business with his brother in the mid 80s naming it Olivier Leflaive Frères; by 1994 the business was booming and he left the family domaine to focus on his own. Today the estate covers 17 hectares and manages fruit from 103 more, with the majority of their vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet, and Meursault. The whites undergo malolactic fermentation, lees stirring, and barrel ageing (typically 20-30% new oak) offering a touch more opulence and richness than the current trend in the aforementioned appellations.
