Mewstone is a joint venture between brothers Matthew and Jonathan Hughes based in the d’Entrecasteaux Channel in Southern Tasmania. Matthew manages the vineyard while Johnny makes the wine. Under the Mewstone label, they focus on premium single-vineyard expressions primarily of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling from their 3.6ha estate-owned fruit. The Flowerpot vineyard is naturally low-yielding and produces intensely flavoured fruit. Their second label, Hughes & Hughes, purchases grapes from neighbouring vineyards and is a more playful approach to winemaking. Both labels offer exceptional bang for your buck.
