Domaine Laguerre is a little fish in a very big pond. Roussillon is more closely associate with rich fortified wines or mass-produced bulk wine, but Laguerre is doing something different here. With 40ha of vineyards, Éric Laguerre has certified his estate organic and is in the process of converting to biodynamics. He hand-harvests and treats the wines with minimal intervention in the winery. Sitting at over 500m above sea level on gneiss, fractured granite, and some pockets of quartz, the wines he produces are rich (usually 14% or higher), but fresh – a balance not easily achieved.
