Castagna is a world-class winery located in Beechworth, Australia. Julian and Carolann Castagna planted their vineyard in 1997 after becoming disenchanted with their careers in the film industry. Wanting to start anew, they built the winery from scratch whilst living in a caravan. They learned, expediently, through trial and error.
The couple were early supporters of biodynamic and organic viticulture (their estate vineyards are certified both), as well as minimal intervention winemaking before it was labelled as such. Today the vineyards are hand-picked, hand-pruned, only indigenous yeasts are used, and wines are matured in high-quality tight-grain French oak barrels. They make 3 distinct ranges: Estate and Cru wines (Cru wines are reserved for only the best vintages), Adam’s Rib Range (young vines), and Growers' Selection (with fruit from “growers who care”). Although different in texture and vine age, it is their attention to detail, precision, and exceptional quality that you can expect to see in all 3 lines.
