Hamish Young was playing in and out of the vines of Hawke’s Bay long before he knew that they would be at the centre of his future career. Upon leaving New Zealand, he travelled the world’s wine regions gaining knowledge and experience. Eventually he settled down at Eden Road Wine. In 2016 he branched out to make wines under his own label, Mada Wines. Based in Canberra, Hamish works closely with viticulturists, sourcing fruit from NSW alpine regions. He believes it “starts in the soils, ends in the glass”. Whether it is zippy, textured Rieslings from Gundaroo or concentrated cool-climate Shiraz from Murrumbateman, Hamish has a distinct knack for balance and depth of flavour.
