Josh Cooper, son of Nelly and Allan Cooper of Cobaw Ridge Wines, was raised amongst the vines in Macedon Ranges, Victoria. Deciding early on to follow in his family’s footsteps, he pursued a degree in oenology at only 19 years of age. His passion for learning and development took him far and wide - Chablis, Barossa, Burgundy, Heathcote, Hunter Valley, Portugal, to name a few of his work-experience destinations. However, there is no place like home and in 2012 Josh set up his own winery in Macedon – Josh Cooper Wines.
Josh purchases grapes from growers within the Macedon Ranges, South Gisborne, and Heathcote, in a negociant-style setup. He is best known for his single-vineyard Chardonnays and Pinot Noir, although he does produce a Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon as well. He is considered a “natural” winemaker, but allows for the addition of sulfur dioxide to preserve and protect his wines. The resulting wines from these cool-climate regions are superbly refreshing and pure.
In 2020, Josh was named Gourmet Traveller’s Young Winemaker of the Year.
