A rare Magnum from Cornelissen’s coveted Monte Colla cru, this 2018 Munjebel MC is a singular expression of old-vine Nerello Mascalese grown on steep, terraced volcanic slopes facing Mount Etna. Sourced from vines planted as far back as the mid-20th century and farmed with Cornelissen’s minimal-intervention philosophy, the wine unfolds with layers of bright red and dark berry fruit, subtle floral lift and spice, all underscored by the saline minerality and earthy complexity that define the best Etna reds. The palate is rich yet graceful, backed by vibrant acidity and finely structured tannins that give persistence and focus, while the Magnum format lends extra depth and ageing potential. A powerful yet elegant testament to volcanic terroir, this is Etna Rosso at its most expressive and refined.
Frank Cornelissen is one of the main figures behind today’s Etna wines’ popularity. He established his estate in 2001 on the northern part of the Sicilian Island, back when Etna as a wine region was relatively still undiscovered.
Frank farms 24 hectares of vines mostly planted to the indigenous variety Nerello Mascalese, in the most traditional way, avoiding all treatments where possible. Instead, the estate idealises inter-plantation of fruit trees and beehives to regain a complex ecosystem.
From the Estate range to the single vineyard cuvées (specific crus with individual expressions, produced and bottled only in exceptional vintages), the wines showcase the incomparable volcanic terroir with intensity and uniqueness – textural, yet with lively freshness and endless length.
