'Not Quite White' 2023

​​King Valley Savagnin & Pinot Blanc, two Euro varieties far from home, but gee they're making a name for themselves here. A lovely intro to a sulphur free, textural white wine that doesn’t begin and end with Chardonnay. Sat on skins for 4 days, pressed to tank to settle then into old oak barrels for 5 months, no adds. A tete-a-tete of white blossoms and stone fruit. Super pretty acid, rivers of texture a line of bright minerality on the palate. 

The new Defialy wines from Micah, are really very good. Each cuvee is a portal into a fanciful, carefree universe of anthropomorphological characters with endearing personalities. Maybe that’s because the name is a portal itself, an abbreviation of the way his parents used to sign off letters “don’t ever forget i’ll always love you”. And you might find yourself reciting this to the wine’s before you take your last sip…
