Paul Pujol, winemaker of Prophet’s Rock, was born and raised in New Zealand. He is passionate about showcasing the site-specific Central Otago terroir, but so too has an enthusiasm for old world winemaking and styles. Prior to Prophet’s Rock, this interest took Paul to France where he spent 3 years as winemaker for famed Alsatian house, Kuentz-Bas. The Prophet’s Rock Riesling and Pinot Gris are inspired by the Alsatian style. His time overseas also included stints in Languedoc, Sancerre, and Chambolle-Musigny. It was in Chambolle-Musigny that he encountered Francois Millet, which ultimately led to a friendship and an exchange; the Cuvée aux Antipodes Pinot Noir began as the product of that partnership. Paul continues to travel in search of new ideas and inspirations, always bringing something back to the Prophet’s Rock label.
