In the quiet village of Bockenau, in Germany’s Nahe Valley, the Fröhlich family has been growing grapes for more than 200 years. Their estate rose to international fame after Tim Fröhlich took over the winemaking at just 21. Today he ranks among Germany’s finest Riesling producers, celebrated for precise, flinty wines from steep slate and volcanic vineyards such as Felseneck and Felsenberg. This estate Riesling is the perfect introduction to his style. It’s fermented and raised in stainless steel to keep it pure and bright, and it’s crisp and dry at a refreshing 11.5% alcohol. Expect green apple, lemon and lime, a touch of beeswax and that signature smoky, flinty edge, with lively acidity and a clean, mineral finish. It’s brilliant as an aperitif or with seafood, and it will happily cellar for a decade.
