Every wine in the Gembrook Hill range comes from the family’s own vineyard, except this one. Founded in 1983 by Ian and June Marks, Gembrook Hill has become one of the Upper Yarra Valley’s benchmark estates, its cool, elevated site producing fine-boned, age-worthy Pinot Noir. Their son Andrew Marks now makes the wines. The Village Pinot comes from a single vineyard in nearby Yellingbo, on grey clay loam, which is unusual for the Upper Yarra. The fruit keeps the area’s hallmark perfume but adds a denser, richer palate and firmer tannins. It’s destemmed, fermented on skins for three to four weeks, and matured in large old French oak, unfined and unfiltered. The warm 2025 season gave a deeper, darker wine: black cherry, sweet spice and savoury, twiggy herbs, with building tannins and a long, perfumed finish.
