Serralunga d’Alba, a hilltop village crowned by a 14th-century castle, is home to some of the most powerful, long-lived Barolos in the Langhe. It’s also home to Diego Rivetti, a tiny artisan grower whose wines rarely travel far beyond Piedmont. His Langhe Nebbiolo offers a glimpse of the village’s character in a younger, more approachable form. Serralunga’s limestone-rich marls give Nebbiolo depth, firm structure and a distinctive savoury edge, while the Langhe designation allows the grape’s perfume to shine without years in the cellar. Expect classic aromas of red cherry, raspberry, rose petal and dried herbs, with hints of liquorice and tar, bright acidity and fine, grippy tannins. Savoury and wonderfully food-friendly, it’s a small-production gem to pour with pasta, mushrooms or slow-cooked meats.
