Gaetano and Nicoletta Gargano have returned to Sicily after years of corporate work in mainland Italy. It was the wines of Giampiero Bea in Montefalco, Umbria, which inspired Gaetano to revive his family’s 200-year-old estate, Il Censo, in Bivona, Sicily. Under the guidance of Giampiero, Gaetano planted 5ha of Cataratto and Perricone with organic and biodynamic principles. They have since added 4 more hectares of Nero d’Avola and Malvasia Nera. The vineyards sit at 700m above sea level, giving name to the “700” cuvée, which is 100% Nero d'Avola.
