Located in the southern Burgundian appellation of Pouilly Vinzelles, within the Mâconnais sub-region, the estate story started with Jules Bret in 1947, who saw early on, the incredible potential of the area. After slowly acquiring holdings in the neighbouring appellations such as St-Veran and Pouilly-Fuissé, La Soufrandière today covers just under 12 hectares of biodynamically certified prime vineyards.
Nowadays, Jean-Philippe and Jean-Guillaume, commonly called the Bret Brothers, are showcasing through their wines the incredible terroir of the region.
Influenced by Dominique Lafon from Meursault, the brothers work the land without taking any shortcuts, adhering to the following labour-intensive rudiments: hand-harvesting, intensive canopy management, hard pruning and ploughing by horse.
The result speaks in the glass; the wines clearly have a sense of place, expressing the rocky limestone soil with a mineral purity over richness. The different cuvées display an intensity of flavours with long and fresh finish.
